Movado was founded in 1881 by the 19-year old Achille Ditesheim. But it wasn’t until 1905 that the company got its name, which means “always in motion” in Esperanto. By many people Ermeto is considered to be one of their most significant products. When it was launched in 1926, the watch was regarded a modern alternative to both the older pocket watches and the newer wrist watches. The watch is mounted inside a case, and it is by opening and closing the case you wind up the watch. Therefore, the watch winds automatically if used often.

The Ermeto was produced in four different sizes and in a large variation of looks. The smallest one was designed for women and called “Purse watch” and the larger one, “Pull man” was used as a table clock. The watches were made in different kinds of metal and could be decorated with jewels, gemstones and leather. Some of them also had complications like alarm and calendar.
