The legendary free diver Jacques Mayol beat his own freediving record in November 1981 when he went down to astonishing 101 meters depth outside the coast of Elba. On his arm he was wearing an Omega Seamaster 120 (Ref no. 396.0900), the so called “Plongeur De Luxe”.

The Seamaster 120 had an Omega made quartz movement (Cal 1337) and because it was only 7,9 mm thick it could be used not only as a sport watch, but also as a dress watch. Omega was sponsoring Mayol at the record attempt as a way to kick-start the launch of their new model Seamaster 120, and the rest is history. It was in production until 1988, when it was replaced by Seamaster 200 “pre-Bond”.
