When the U.S.A.’s participation in World War II increased, the access to Swiss dashboard clocks was cut off. All American watch brands were therefore enforced to help the military when they needed it. This led to a collaboration between Elgin and Hamilton, and among other watches, they produced the 37500, also called AN 5741 -1, which has to be considered quite complicated with features like 8-days movement, date, chronograph and 24-hour indicator.

Some of the parts were made by Hamilton and others were made by Elgin, in the end both companies assembled watches, with the only difference that the ones finished by Hamilton was called H-37500, and the ones by Elgin E-37500. In total, about 28.000 units were produced.
